Here are a just a few examples of grateful patients who are on the road to recovery because of donors to the CoxHealth Foundation. You can be the reason someone is able to return to their life. Thank you for giving these patients hope and compassion through your support.

Deb Sterling

Deb Sterling – Deb has fought many battles in the last couple years; divorce, caring for her mom and losing her job. The biggest battle she faced though was breast cancer. Thanks to you, Deb was able to get the treatment she needed and is now done with chemo! A return to good health has allowed her to return to work and to regain her life again. She sends this photo of her family with her heartfelt thanks to all donors to the Breast Care Fund at the CoxHealth Foundation.

Theresa Long

Theresa Long – Theresa was scared when she began showing signs of colorectal problems again. Thinking that her colonoscopy would be covered by insurance, she went in for her screening and was then surprised when her insurance did not cover the test, leaving her with a large bill. Theresa was already facing many financial challenges and this unexpected bill would set her even further back. She applied for help through the Colorectal Cancer Prevention Fund and had her entire colonoscopy covered by donations. She can’t thank our donors enough for covering her screening and making it known that preventative testing is important! Colonoscopies find the pre-cancerous polyps that become cancer. By removing them, cancer is stopped before it starts. This is the impact our donors to this fund have every day.

Tracy Lane

Tracy Lane – Tracy was in a horrible vehicle accident that left her in the hospital, in need of ongoing therapy and equipment. Donors to the HUG Fund provided the medications and shower chair needed for her to comfortably return home. Tracy is slowly regaining her independence thanks to the financial support gifted to her during this traumatic time in her life. HUG Fund recipients are gifted things not covered by insurance or other programs. Tracy sends her thanks to all our donors for the hope she now has in her heart for a full recovery.

Margaret Grooms

Margaret Grooms spent years cuddling babies in the Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The staff were like family to her and her family appreciated the great joy it brought to her life. That is why those closest to her chose to honor her community service with a room dedication in the NICU inside the Dee Ann White Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Now Margaret has a permanent marker of her commitment to caring for the tiniest patients at CoxHealth. The funds donated for the room go directly back to the NICU to help provide the highest levels of technology, services and programs for the babies and their families. Donor opportunities are available across the health system from gift levels starting at $500 for bench markers, $5,000 for patient rooms, $10,000 for specialty rooms and up depending on the location. To learn more about a commemorative donor opportunity, contact the CoxHealth Foundation at 417-269-7109. All commemoratives are lifetime of the unit or room markers.

Michele McDaniel spearheaded the tournament held Saturday June 10 at Pointe Royale golf course in Branson. The day was lovely, the course is beautiful and a good time was had by all!  Festivities included 2 rounds of competitive golf, an amazing lunch provided by Gettin’ Basted Barbeque Restaurant (if you haven’t tried it, you should!), an auction, a 50/50 raffle and of course games during play like “Pay for a Pro”.

The day was held in honor of Jim Cox, a Willow Springs resident.  His close knit, strong community will ensure his legend lives on as they continue to pull together in support of patients at CoxHealth.  Funds will be received by the Grey Matters Fund at CoxHealth Foundation and utilized to ensure patients fighting the good fight against brain cancer, trauma, aneurysm and tumors will continue to receive an exceptional level of care and support.

Strike Out Sarcoma was held this past Saturday at Andy B’s Entertainment Center…wow! What a great time!

This year’s event was generously presented by Arvest Bank and Dr. José Dominguez.

Festivities included 2 games of bowling, plenty of food for everyone, event t-shirts, a raffle for numerous great prizes and the grand finale announcing the winner of an incredible trip to Cancun. Congratulations Arianna Hite!

The driving force behind this effort was Sean Swanson, a courageous man who fought his cancer and hoped to help others afflicted with the same. Sean created “Strike-Out Sarcoma” 4 years ago. Even though Sean left us, his gift of compassion carries on. The Cancer Services Fund helps hundreds of patients each year by providing resources available nowhere else in this region.

We so appreciate everyone who attended as well as the businesses and individuals who supported our most recent event behind the scenes, thank you! Your gifts will be put to good use!

Be sure to watch for Strike Out Sarcoma announcements next spring, 2018, so you can join in the fun and support this most worthy cause.

Karen Sue Hodges was crushed between two cars.  She is lucky to be alive and walking. A gift from the CoxHealth Foundation has helped her to walk again.

Bennett lives his life in a wheelchair and requires daily support for his many medical needs. Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals helps him get the therapies that allow him to manage the wheelchair on his own.

This is the impact OF OUR EMPLOYEE DONORS. A gift to the Employee Giving Program allows the CoxHealth Foundation and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals to say YES countless times each day to requests for help. Where else would most of these patients find support if not for the caring employees of CoxHealth and donors to the CoxHealth Foundation and CMNH? The answer is nowhere. Our Employee Giving Program truly sets our organization apart.  It provides the assistance that gets patients-pediatric and adult-the medications they can’t afford, the equipment or education they would otherwise do without, the care that will get them back to life.  It makes CoxHealth a better place to work and receive care because our employees are invested in every patient’s success.

This is the time to join us in our annual Employee Donor Campaign.  Click the link below if you wish to sign up and learn about the great gifts you can receive and the chances to win monthly $50 GIFT CARDS while helping our patients back to good health.

Already a donor and wanting to help us grow? If every current employee donor increased their gift by $2 we could assist over 2,000 more patients in 2017. That’s the difference $2 CAN MAKE. If you would like to help us touch more lives click the link and add a minimum of $2 more to your current gift.  For doing so we will send you back our thanks in the form of our new GIVER T-shirt. (Be sure to circle your size!) If your current gift plus the $2 or more increase takes you to the $12 a pay period mark we will also send you our new Stainless Steel “Yeti -style” Tumbler. It’s just our way of saying THANK YOU for your incredible generosity to the Foundation and CMNH.  Your gift is fully tax-deductible but most importantly, it’s fully life changing! Questions? Call us at 269-7150 or visit here to sign up.  Your kindness is the compassion that gives these patients hope.

The 2017 Food For A Woman’s Heart luncheon is in the books.  The annual event focuses on women learning about their heart health, how to recognize problems and how to avoid them if they can.  Activities include live music, browsing vendor booths, mini spa services for a bit of pampering, an exciting bag raffle with incredible prizes, a silent auction, and of course an incredible sit down luncheon prepared by our friends at Touch Restaurant.  These activities along with information and encouragement by our speaker Dr. Julia Flax as well as inspiration from our 3 “Champions” who represent the thousands of women in our community who struggle with negative heart health issues round out a wonderful, informative and inspirational afternoon.  This year we saw net proceeds over $20,000.00, ensuring many more CoxHealth patients will benefit from state of the art services including education, preventative services, testing, therapy and more!

For women, heart health is so important.  We now know that:

  • Cardiovascular diseases and stroke cause 1 in 3 women’s deaths each year.
  • 90% of women have one or more risk factors for heart disease or stroke.
  • Women have a higher lifetime risk of stroke than men.
  • 80% of heart disease and stroke events may be prevented by lifestyle changes and education.
  • Fewer women than men survive their first heart attack.
  • The symptoms of heart attack can be different in women vs. men, and are often misunderstood.
  • Hispanic women are likely to develop heart disease 10 years earlier than Caucasian women.
  • Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death for Hispanic women.
  • Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death for African-American women. Of African-American women ages 20 and older, 48.3% have cardiovascular disease.

We want to thank our sponsors for investing in the mission and help in providing vital services to our community:

  • Baron Design
  • Ferrell-Duncan Clinic Foundation
  • Varicose Vein Clinic at Ferrell Duncan

We hope to see you all next February at Food For A Woman’s Heart 2018.

Dana Nance was driving home from the diner in Bolivar where she works. It was late, and rainy and she was tired from a long day. Suddenly a deer runs out in front of her and like most who’ve experienced it, she swerved hoping to miss it. Dana crashed her truck in a terrible accident. Her legs were pinned, her hips and pelvis were fractured. She was airlifted to Cox South and had 6 surgeries before she was put back together. She couldn’t walk, much less work and she found herself in a huge financial crisis. She could really use a HUG.

Sarah Mantlo was 25 weeks into her pregnancy. The pain she felt on this day had her concerned she was going into premature labor. At Cox South she was given shocking news; she was in renal failure. Several more tests confirmed she had Lupus, complicated with fluid in her lungs. Her husband’s job fed the family of 4 with little left over. The medications she now needed to survive were more than they could afford. If any family needed a HUG, it was this one.

In both cases, the CoxHealth Foundation was contacted to see if help could be provided to these two women. HUG or Help for Uninsured Grants exists for just these kinds of circumstances. When the unexpected happens and a helping hand can make all the difference in a person getting back on their feet, a HUG is offered.

The HUG Fund is only available thanks to the generosity of our donors. Gifts to this fund are utilized for direct patient assistance situations like Dana and Sarah’s. Today both women are healthy, back on their feet and grateful for the compassion the HUG Fund provided them. “I will never forget this kindness,” said Sarah. “I look at my baby and know without the HUG I received, he wouldn’t be here. Thank you to everyone who helped.”

If you would like to give a HUG to someone in need, your tax-deductible gift will and can change the life of someone in our local Ozarks community. Thank you for your support!
