Thanks to everyone who supported this year’s Colo-Rectal Awareness Party aka CRAP! The annual event which takes place during national Colon Cancer Awareness Month, brings awareness to the cause and the need for colonoscopies.
“Our program began after our physicians were seeing an increase in patients with colon cancer who had never had a colonoscopy. When our doctors asked why, the answer was always the same-the cost,” says Lisa Alexander, CoxHealth Foundation president and CRAP organizer. “So we put together a fundraiser to support the cost of colonoscopies and have provided over 500 free tests now, working to stop cancer before it starts.” A colonoscopy is a prevention test that can find and remove pre-cancerous polyps, in effect stopping cancer’s growth. This year’s CRAP event featured 48 tables of guests, Dr. Jose Dominguez, Colon and Rectal Surgeon as the speaker, fun casino and colon related games. “The Poop Shoot and TP Toss are always game favorites,” says Alexander, “but this year the Polyp Pop and TP Shoot Out were equally popular!” The event also features a live and silent auction. This year’s items included an autographed Kansas City Chiefs helmet and flight, suite tickets and tailgate to the donor’s choice of games. The event raised $110,000 to support providing colonoscopies to those who need but cannot afford this important prevention test.
