Dignity. It’s what we all hope for in our lives when we age and our health begins to decline. It’s what Elizabeth Crockett asked for when she reached out to her case worker upon release from the hospital. Elizabeth needed a bath bench to help get herself in and out of the tub. She also needed Depends. It was hard to ask for but she knew without it she would not be able to properly care for herself. Elizabeth’s case worker called the CoxHealth Foundation to ask if this is something that could be funded. The answer was, “Yes!”
The HUG Fund exists for requests like this and helps to meet the unexpected needs that are not funded through any other source. Today the HUG Fund meets more daily needs than almost any other fund within the CoxHealth Foundation. The HUG Fund was started by memorial gifts in honor of former administrator Neil Wortley. Mr. Wortley was known for his great hugs and his overwhelming compassion for patients who needed a little help to be well again. If you’d like to be a part of giving a patient the compassion that the HUG fund gave Elizabeth, join us by donating here.
