Robert Kent Voss was a hero to men across the Ozarks. His passion for prostate cancer brought about action in encouraging men to get screened, to pay attention to their bodies and not be ashamed or embarrassed to ask the pressing questions.
Along with Dr. Abe Abdalla, a radiation oncologist at CoxHealth, Voss helped found the Prostate Cancer of the Ozarks group. This group forged ahead with education for newly diagnosed men and their families as well as those already diagnosed who wanted to be able to make better informed decisions on their care. “Rob Voss came to us with a desire to give men control of their health when diagnosed with prostate cancer. He knew from his personal experience that you had to be bold. You had to ask questions and understand the response,” says Lisa Alexander, president of CoxHealth Foundation. “Rob then took the next step and organized the most “in-demand ticket of all times” event for prostate cancer. He didn’t just talk, he was all action!” The “Under the Sea” dinner in 2016 created the Prostate Cancer Fund with gross proceeds of over $200,000. Alexander says, “Rob reached out to his collective of amazing friends who so loved this man. Together with support from Johnny Morris at Bass Pro Shops, the event was inside the new Wonders of Wildlife Museum, prior to its opening.” Rob spoke that evening and educated a whole new audience about his passion to fight prostate cancer. “He touched so many lives in his lifetime and now that legacy continues,” says Alexander. The family of Voss selected the Prostate Cancer Fund to receive his memorial gifts. The Prostate Cancer Fund assists men with medical expenses tied to their care, offering a hand-up in this time of need. This Fund will impact hundreds of men each year on their journey back to good health. Voss also invested in the “Top to Bottom” Golf Tourney whose proceeds also benefited the Prostate Cancer Fund and the Breast Care Fund. Voss was a speaker for several years, educating men at the event prior to the tee-off. Rob said at the last event he attended: “I’ve got you now. Listen and learn and then go enjoy the sport. This will be the best ten minutes of your life, because it could save your life.”
This year’s “Top to Bottom” Golf Tourney is August 1st at Highland Springs Country Club. A special tribute will be paid to Voss at that event. To learn more about the Prostate Cancer Fund or to donate in memory of Rob Voss, click this link: https://www.coxhealthfoundation.com/to-give/donate-now/
